Rohan Mehrotra is the co-founder of Space Penguin and one of Australia's most experienced voices in digital strategy and the future of work. With over 20 years in ad technology and programmatic advertising across APAC, he has spent most of his career working out of offices, cafes, coworking spaces, and hotel lobbies — often simultaneously — long before 'work from anywhere' became a mainstream concept. He co-founded Space Penguin because he kept running into the same problem: finding a reliable, productive place to work when you are not tied to an office is harder than it should be. Space Penguin is his attempt to fix that.
Rohan writes about the practical realities of working and running a business without a fixed base — tax residency, maintaining an Australian address while travelling, choosing the right workspace for the day, and the tools and habits that make location independence genuinely sustainable rather than just aspirational. He draws on real experience: he has managed Australian business obligations while working across time zones, balanced client work with the chaos of being a dad, and fitted marathon training around a schedule that changes cities more often than most people change offices.
Beyond Space Penguin, Rohan is the founder of Transcending Monkeys, a digital and data strategy consultancy. He holds an MBA from the University of Wollongong and has led programmatic and data strategy for some of Australia's largest media and advertising organisations.
